A new Gallup poll revealed that 76 percent of Democrats said they would vote for a socialist in the 2020 elections, a sharp contrast to the majority of Americans who said they would not consider doing so.
The poll, released on Tuesday, was conducted last month in the lead-up to the Iowa caucuses. Just 17 percent of Republicans and 45 percent of independents said they would support a socialist candidate.
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), the only self-professed socialist running in 2020, climbed to second place among candidates in the caucuses, placing just one-tenth of a percentage point behind winner Pete Buttigieg.
🔦 Sanders has surged even higher since Iowa, taking the top spot in a recent Quinnipiac University poll among New Hampshire voters.
