A church in North Carolina is building an amphitheater on its 75-acre property to allow corporate worship in the event of a future pandemic.

City Church in Gastonia is fundraising $500,000 to cover the cost of the project.

"Nothing we can do about this virus. This virus is probably not going to go anywhere," said lead pastor Dickie Spargo. There's going to be a COVID-32, a COVID-45; that's just the way it works. It's called a virus."

Spargo said the church can be prepared, however, to take worship outside.

The church plans to let the amphitheater be used by the wider community as well, including area schools.
