A North Carolina man on Sunday allegedly charged a 5-year-old boy who was playing in his neighborhood, put a gun to his head, and fatally shot the young child, according to local news.
Cannon Hinnant was outside his father's house when neighbor Darius Sessoms, 25, approached the 5-year-old and shot him in the head, according to another neighbor who witnessed the incident.
First responders arrived at the scene and transported Hinnant to Wilson Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
According to Cannon's mother, his two sisters, ages 8 and 7, saw their brother get shot.
Sessoms was apprehended by law enforcement in the nearby town of Goldsboro roughly 24 hours after the shooting. He was charged with first-degree murder and is being held without bond in the Wilson County jail.
A GoFundMe page created by Christina Prezioso, a cousin of the family, has raised more than $5,500.
