Two intelligence services confirmed that the new leader of the Islamic State has been confirmed as Amir Mohammed Abdul Rahman al-Mawli al-Salbi, who is known for the enslavement of Iraq's Yazidi minority and has overseen operations around the world.

Salbi was named leader shortly after the death of Abu Baker al-Baghdadi in October, although the name given at the time was a nom de guerre not recognized by others. He was born near Mosul and studied Sharia law at the University of Mosul.

Salbi is considered on of the most influential ideologues in IS and one of the few non-Arabs among leadership.
