Deshaun Watson, star quarterback of the NFL's Houston Texans, is now facing sexual assault allegations from at least 12 women.
Tony Buzbee, the attorney representing the women, is filing a series of civil lawsuits against Watson that range from verbal harassment all the way to compelling oral sex. The lawyer said that 10 additional women have contacted him with accusations against Watson. His office is in the process of vetting those allegations before determining whether they are legitimate enough to act upon.
Buzbee says that as a high-profile attorney he isn't in this for the money or the fame.
"This case isn't about money," Buzbee said. "We have pleaded the jurisdictional minimum … [of] $500. It's certainly not about seeking publicity or fame. I personally don't need it, and these women don't want it. This case is about female empowerment and taking the power back. They bring these cases for one reason only: Stopping further misconduct from this defendant and any others like him."
Buzbee said he has received multiple death threats from Watson's fans and supporters, but that he and the women won't "be deterred."
Watson has retained the legal services of Rusty Hardin, another well-known attorney, who famously worked to get Major League Baseball pitcher Roger Clemens acquitted of charges that he lied to Congress during its steroids investigation.
