The National Hockey League on Thursday announced it is suspending the remainder of its current season due to concerns over the coronavirus pandemic, adding to the growing list of sports leagues that have nixed play to help halt the spread of the disease.

The league said it hopes to resume games later in the season, which runs through April. The organization did not immediately say whether or not one of its players had contracted the disease.

The NHL in its response to the coronavirus joins leagues such as the NBA, which has suspended the remainder of its season, and the PGA, which has barred fans from attending its current tournaments.
