The New York Times on Sunday issued a contradictory tweet about Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, listing several instances of sexual misconduct by the politician while claiming that the newspaper had found "no pattern" of sexual misconduct committed by him.

Biden has been engulfed in a political firestorm in recent days after one of his former staffers, Tara Reade, publicly accused him of sexual assault, even going so far as to file a criminal complaint against the former vice president.

The Times on Sunday announced the putative results of an investigation into those claims, apparently having found no sufficiently corroborating evidence to support Reade's claims, though the newspaper did so in a strange and self-defeating fashion.

"We found no pattern of sexual misconduct by Biden, beyond hugs, kisses, and touching that women previously said made them uncomfortable," the paper said in a now-deleted tweet.
