Philadelphia's Tomb of the Unknown Soldier of the American Revolution has been marred with graffiti that reads "Committed GENOCIDE."
The vandalism was discovered June 12. The National Park Service is working with "a professional stone conservator" to clean the monument. The monument is constructed of limestone, which is very porous, meaning the graffiti remains visible despite initial cleanings.
The National Park Service said the monument's appearance should improve in roughly two weeks.
Numerous other statues and monuments across the nation have been damaged amid riots and protests stemming from the May 25 death of George Floyd in police custody in Minneapolis.
