The FBI has told law enforcement agencies that apprehending the person who constructed pipe bombs and left them near the Capitol on January 6 is a "top priority" leading up to the presidential inauguration.
Law enforcement officials found two pipe bombs just blocks away from the Capitol, one at the Republican National Committee headquarters and the other at the Democratic National Committee headquarters. According to federal officials, both pipe bombs were legitimate destructive devices with functioning components.
The investigation into the pipe bombs remains open as federal authorities look closely at them.
"Every explosive device tells a story," a senior federal law enforcement official said.
Authorities will be looking into how the bombs were manufactured, where the fuel was obtained, and any similarities to other devices in federal databases.
