A Brighton, Colorado, man was arrested in front of his 6-year-old daughter this week after police came across them playing baseball in a city park and claimed they were in violation of social distancing laws.
Matt Mooney said he, his daughter, and wife had walked to the nearby public park and were "just having a good time" while at least 15 feet from other park-goers. Police reportedly showed up and ordered everyone out of the park due to it allegedly being closed.
Mooney told officers he believed his family was in compliance with social distancing rules. When he refused to provide identification to the officers, they handcuffed him and placed him in a patrol car while calling superiors for guidance on the situation.
The father was subsequently released. The police department apologized for the incident, calling it an "overreach" on the part of the officers.
