The day before the U.S. Senate is expected to vote to acquit President Trump, results of a Gallup poll show Trump has hit the highest approval rating of his presidency, clocking in at 49 percent.
Gallup's previous poll showed a 45 percent approval rating for Trump.
The number puts the president ahead of where former President Barack Obama was at the same point in his presidency (46 percent).
Remarkably, Trump's record-high approval comes just weeks after House Democrats voted to impeach him.
The current poll shows that more Americans view the Republican party favorably now (51 percent) than in 2019 (43 percent). Responses also revealed 52 percent support for the president's acquittal, while 46 percent of respondents favored removing him from office.
