In a recent speech explaining the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's decision to resign from royal life, Prince Harry pinned blame on the "powerful force" that is the media.
Harry said stepping down is the only option to secure a quieter life for himself, his wife Meghan, and the couple's young son, Archie.
"The decision that I have made for my wife and I to step back is not one I made lightly. It was so many months of talks after so many years of challenges," he said. "And I know I haven't always got it right, but as far as this goes, there really was no other option."
Last fall, both the Duke and Duchess of Sussex filed lawsuits against media organizations. Harry has previously compared the media's treatment of Meghan to that of his late mother, Princess Diana.
Harry noted that he and Meghan had wished to maintain more of a connection to royal life and duties than the final agreement prescribes and expressed "great sadness that it has come to this.″ He thanked his family, including his grandmother, for their support.
The couple will live in Canada and maintain a home in England. They will no longer receive public funding, represent the queen in any appearances, or use their "royal highness" titles. Harry also must give up his honorary military roles.
Meghan and Archie are already living in Canada.
