Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have agreed to repay roughly 2.4 million pounds, or $3.1 million, of taxpayer money spent to renovate their Windsor Castle. They will also step aside as working royals and no longer use the titles "royal highness," nor will they continue to receive public funds.

The dramatic split from the royal family was reportedly triggered by the couple's unhappiness with life under the media spotlight, and is set to be completed by the spring of 2020.

According to the Associated Press:

The radical break is more complete than the type of arrangement anticipated 10 days ago when the royal couple stunned Britain with an abrupt announcement that they wanted to step down. They said they planned to combine some royal duties with private work in a "progressive" plan, but that is no longer on the table.
