A new bill proposed in Congress would give $2,000 per month to millions of Americans during the coronavirus pandemic to help ensure the economy does not collapse as tens of millions of Americans lose their jobs during the outbreak.
The bill says that every American adult older than 16 who makes less than $130,000 per year would get a $2,000 cash transfer every month. Married couples making less than $260,000 would receive $4,000 per month, while couples with children would receive an extra $500 for up to three children.
The bill is called the "Emergency Money for the People Act." It builds upon an earlier coronavirus relief bill that issued a one-time cash transfer of $1,200 to most Americans.
