Russian President Vladimir Putin mocked the U.S. embassy in Moscow on Friday for flying a rainbow flag in support of LGBT pride. Putin said that the flag "revealed something about the people that work there."
"It's no big deal though. We have spoken about this many times, and our position is clear," Putin said. "Yes, we passed a law banning the propaganda of homosexuality among minors. So what? Let people grow up, become adults and then decide their own destinies."
The law has been used to stop gay pride parades, as well as detain gay rights activists.
Putin's comments also follow a national vote to pass a constitutional amendment specifying a marriage as being between a man and a woman.
🔦 Putin himself has aligned with the Russian Orthodox Church.
