Recreational use of marijuana is now legal in the state of Montana with some limitations.

Adults over 21 years old are allowed to grow, possess, and consume marijuana.

Individuals can possess up to one ounce of marijuana. Residents can grow up to four marijuana plants in their homes.

Marijuana dispensaries will be unable to sell cannabis commercially until January 2022. Smoking marijuana in public is not allowed.

"We're kind of in a weird area right now where it's legal to possess, but it's not legal to purchase, so there's a lot of uncertainty," Saghatelian said.

Lieutenant Brandon Wooley of the Billings Police Department said the police will still enforce the law against marijuana trafficking and distribution.

"We're still going to seize everything and we're still going to forward through for the County Attorney's office for prosecution," Wooley said.
