Reddit CEO Steve Huffman blasted the short-form video app TikTok while speaking at a panel discussion called "Social 2030" on Wednesday, describing it as "parasitic" and just another form of "spyware."
"...I look at that app as so fundamentally parasitic, that it's always listening, the fingerprinting technology they use is truly terrifying, and I could not bring myself to install an app like that on my phone," Huffman said.
TikTok is owned by a Chinese company called ByteDance.
Huffman added that he routinely tells people not install "that spyware" on their phone.
🔦 The way TikTok handles its user data has come under heavy scrutiny from the U.S. government. Many agencies have banned staff from downloading and using the app out of fear that private information is being fed back to the Chinese government.
