President Joe Biden's administration agreed to pay an $86 million hotel room contract for 1,200 migrants who cross the U.S.-Mexico border, according to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
Migrant lodging in border state hotels is set for six months, but "could be extended and expanded."
Endeavors, a San Antonio-based non-profit organization, will organize the hotel arrangements.
DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said the U.S. government is "on pace to encounter more individuals on the southwest border than we have in the last 20 years."
"The Biden Amin. has turned a humanitarian crisis into a complete disaster," said Texas Gov. Greg Abbott. "They were unprepared for open border policies."
