Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden has reportedly narrowed his choice for a running mate down to Rep. Karen Bass (CA) or Sen. Tammy Duckworth (IL), a source familiar with the situation said.
The source told the Globe that former Rep. Tony Coelho (CA), who has been pushing hard for Biden to select Bass, allegedly informed another person that "Biden's folks told Bass it's her or Duckworth."
Bass and Duckworth have both been previously thought to be potential choices for vice president — a position Biden has already vowed would be filled by a woman.
Duckworth is an Iraq war veteran serving as the junior United States Senator from Illinois since 2017.
Bass has been in Congress for 10 years, spending the last two chairing the Congressional Black Caucus.
Coelho, who denied saying that the decision for Biden's running mate boiled down to Bass and Duckworth, did say that either woman would make an excellent running mate.
"I do feel that both Bass and Duckworth are well qualified and top contenders to be selected as the Vice Presidential nominee," Coelho told the Globe.
