San Fransisco Mayor London Breed (D) announced a new plan Thursday to redistribute funds from the city's police department to black communities.

The city will spend $120 million over the next two years under the plan, which is being called "The Dream Keeper Initiative." Under the plan, San Fransisco will invest in areas of major need as identified by black residents in surveys and meetings last year.

This includes job opportunities, health campaigns, housing support, youth programs, and cultural initiatives.

🔦San Francisco has seen a sharp rise in violent crime over the past year, with homicides alone rising 35%. Homelessness and drug use has also risen to historic levels.
