A new Bernie Sanders campaign ad centers around the claim that, if elected, Sanders would be the "first Jewish-American president."
The Vermont senator did not highlight his Jewish ancestry in his 2016 presidential campaign, instead referring to his family's Polish heritage and his Brooklyn upbringing.
The Sanders ad shows the candidate lighting a menorah and criticizes the Trump administration for alleged anti-Semitism. Sanders has previously said he would relocate the U.S. Embassy from Jerusalem, where Trump established it with Israeli approval. Sanders also has criticized what he called "racism" in Israel, saying he might "leverage" American aid to Israel to bring the alleged racism to an end.
🔦 Several outspoken Sanders supporters, including Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) have been criticized as being anti-Semitic.
