Former Vice-Presidential candidate Sarah Palin took to Instagram to congratulate Kamala Harris for being just the third woman ever chosen to run for vice president on a major party ticket.

"Congrats to the democrat VP pick! Climb upon Geraldine Ferraro's and my shoulders, and from the most amazing view in your life consider lessons we learned," began Palin's post on Instagram.

In a sign of nonpartisanship, Palin also offered Harris some encouragement and advice.

Sen. John McCain's selection of Palin to be his running mate in 2008 invigorated his campaign, peaking with her convention acceptance speech that drew the praise of even traditionally hostile media.

Palin cautioned Harris to prepare for significant criticism throughout the campaign.

"Don't get muzzled," Palin wrote. "Connect with media and voters in your own unique way. Some yahoos running campaigns will suffocate you with their own self-centered agenda, so remember you were chosen for who you are. So stay connected with America as you smile and ignore deceptive 'handlers' trying to change you."
