Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) on Wednesday told Supreme Court Justices Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh that they will "pay the price" if they rule in a way that is anti-abortion in a Louisiana case about credentials for abortion doctors.
"I want to tell you, Gorsuch. I want to tell you, Kavanaugh. You have released the whirlwind, and you will pay the price," Schumer said in front of a crowd of abortion advocates. "You won't know what hit you if you go forward with these awful decisions."
The Supreme Court took up June Medical Services v. Russo on Wednesday. The case deals with the constitutionality of a 2014 Louisiana law that requires doctors who perform abortions to have admitting privileges to a hospital within 30 miles of their clinic. Because many abortion doctors do not have these credentials, the law threatens to shut down all but one clinic in Louisiana.
The 5th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in favor of the law in September.
