Scientists have developed an alternative rhino horn made of horsehair in efforts to satisfy the demand for the prized piece without killing more rhinoceroses.

Researchers from the University of Oxford created the substitute horn by gluing horsehair together with regenerated silk to form what appears to be an authentic rhino horn.

Rhinos are declining in population due to poaching and habitat loss, according to conservation group Save the Rhino. Scientists are hoping that this new fake rhino horn will reduce poaching.
