Seattle Children's Hospital, the nationally recognized hospital known for its neonatology and cancer treatment programs, has been hit with a class-action lawsuit over a fatal infestation of mold that occurred on its premises.

The suit claims that hospital administrators — although not doctors or nurses — were aware of the mold infestation, which has reportedly killed six children since 2001. The hospital's CEO has admitted that the institution "should have recognized" the signs of the mold epidemic there.

The suit says that hospital leaders were informed of "filthy" conditions in the building's air handling system as far back as 2002.
