A second possible vaccine for COVID-19 has entered clinical human testing trials, a development the drug manufacturing company called a "significant step forward in the global fight" against coronavirus.

The drug, manufactured by Inovio Pharmaceuticals in Pennsylvania, has reportedly shown "promising" results in animal tests. As many as 40 adults will sign up to be injected with the vaccine as part of clinical trials in Philadelphia.

The initiative has been funded in part by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which has also contributed funding to several COVID-19 pandemic projection models.
