Sen. Richard Burr (R-NC) is currently under investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice over the possibility that he engaged in insider stock trading ahead of the panic surrounding the coronavirus in the United States.

Burr, who has denied the allegations, allegedly dumped around $1.7 million in stocks last month as the coronavirus was slowly but increasingly spreading throughout the country. The senator has called for a complete investigation into the matter in an effort to clear his name.

Several other senators have also come under suspicion for dumping significant amounts of stock around the same time, though it is not clear if they are under investigation by federal authorities for those decisions.
