Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-GA), an ordained minister, said on Easter Sunday that the holiday is "more transcendent" than Jesus Christ and that people can save themselves through "helping others."
"The meaning of Easter is more transcendent than the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Whether you are Christian or not, through a commitment to helping others we are able to save ourselves," Warnock said in a now-deleted Tweet.
Warnock has pastored at Martin Luther King Jr.'s church in Atlanta. His tweet saw backlash on social media, with some on Twitter calling him a "heretic."
