The 20-year-old son of a New Jersey federal judge was shot and killed Sunday evening in a surprise attack at their family home. The judge's husband was also critically injured.
An unidentified attacker dressed as a delivery driver killed Judge Esther Salas's son, Daniel Anderl, and injured her husband, 63-year-old Mark Anderl, at their North Brunswick estate around 5 p.m, authorities told local media.
The judge's son, who was a student at Catholic University in Washington, D.C., had answered the door and was immediately attacked and killed. Mark Anderl is in critical but stable condition.
Salas, who was believed to be in the basement during the attack, was not injured.
It is currently unclear the motive for the attack, although Salas had been receiving threats.
The judge had been recently assigned to a case that had links to late pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. There is no indication the attack is linked to her work.
