Shootings surge under Mayor Lightfoot in Chicago in 2020

More than 4,000 shootings took place in Chicago from January 1, 2020, through December 27, 2020, under Mayor Lori Lightfoot's term.

The city saw 4,115 shooting victims, a number which includes both fatal and non-fatal shootings, and is 1,412 more than 2019.

Homicides were also up considerably from 2019 with a reported 768 homicides in Chicago from January 1, 2020 to December 27, 2020.

Chicago's expressways saw a surge in shootings in 2020, with 115 by December 7.
