Texas authorities are actively searching for a Gregg County inmate that escaped his cell on Thursday after carving his way through a brick wall.

According to the Gregg County Sheriff's Office Facebook page, Laws "carved out portions of the brick in the Gregg County South Jail, gaining access to the building infrastructure and making his way to the exterior Gregg County Courthouse."

Jace Martin Laws, 34, was first arrested on September 7, 2018, for marijuana possession but was released the following day.

A week later, Laws was booked again on several charges, including two counts of assault against a police officer, and was sentenced to 70 years in prison.

Gregg County investigators believe he may be hiding out in Marion County close to the Lake of the Pines area. He could be wearing dark clothes and may have shaved his beard.
