Former NFL quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow drew attention for something other than athletics during a recent trip to the St. Vincent de Paul homeless shelter in Phoenix.
Tebow showed up to the venue with 50 pairs of shoes to give away, which ended up being far less than the amount of people who showed up to see and hear him. So, on his way out the door, the former NCAA football legend reached down, untied his own shoes, and handed them to a guest.
"If you ask me, or many of our guests, Tim has gone from professional athlete to Super Hero in just a few years," St. Vincent de Paul CEO Steve Zabilski complimented. "His actions off the field are as impressive as any last-minute touchdown pass, or game-winning home run. I think we all can agree on that."
Tebow took down a list of every guest who did not receive shoes while he was there, and he sent them each a pair later that day.
🔦 This event is the latest in a long line of public displays of humility on behalf of Tebow. Just a few years ago, the outspoken Christian prayed with the family of a man who had a heart attack in mid-flight. Tebow abandoned his own plans, followed them off the plane, got their luggage, and visited with them in the hospital.
