When a computer glitch caused a backup at the COVID-19 vaccine clinic in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, the mayor called in the expert in streamlined efficiency – the manager of the local Chick-fil-A restaurant.
Mayor Will Haynie became frustrated when learning that citizens coming for vaccinations had been forced to wait up to an hour in line at the assigned health clinic. So Haynie contacted Jerry Walkowiak, who manages a Chick-fil-A establishment in his town, to come advise the city on reorganizing their drive-thru.
According to local media, the idea worked. Walkowiak, who took to standing in the rain with an umbrella and a multi-worker vehicle redirection plan, got things moving efficiently in no time. Mayor Haynie posted video of the scene, commenting that when you need help, "call the pros."
Fortunately for Walkowiak, he didn't have to miss much work since the clinic is located directly across the street from his restaurant.
