The United States Justice Department has charged Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and 14 current and former senior officials with "narco-terrorism, drug trafficking, and other criminal charges," according to a statement released on Thursday.

"Maduro and a number of high-ranking colleagues allegedly conspired with [a U.S.-designated terrorist group], causing tons of cocaine to enter and devastate American communities," the indictment reads.

Maduro played a significant role in helping a criminal organization know as the Cartel of the Suns "flood the United States with cocaine and inflict the drug's harmful and addictive effects on users in this country," according to the indictment.

Attorney General William Barr announced a $15 million reward for any information leading to the arrest of Maduro.
