President Trump released guidelines Thursday for governors to follow to safely reopen their state's economy after the coronavirus pandemic.
"We're starting our life again," Trump said during his daily press briefing. "We're starting rejuvenation of our economy again."
The guidelines will ease restrictions in areas with low transmission of the coronavirus, while maintaining stricter guidelines for coronavirus hot spots.
Trump told governors that they will be in charge of what their respective states do, but that the administration will "be standing alongside of you."
The three-phase plan focuses on a gradual return to normal life.
- The first phase recommends continued strict social distancing for all people in public, as well as avoiding gatherings larger than 10 and nonessential travel.
- The second phase encourages maximized social distancing and limiting gatherings to fewer than 50 people, but allows travel to resume.
- The third phase recommends a return to normalcy, with a focus on isolating any new cases that may appear.
"This is a gradual process," Trump said.
