In a phone interview with Fox News on Wednesday, President Trump described the Black Lives Matter group as Marxist and said he refuses to watch sports games when he sees players or other personnel kneeling for the national anthem.
"Black Lives Matter, when did it start? Marching down the street screaming 'pigs in a blanket, fry them like bacon,'" Trump said. "They were talking about policemen and women...It's a Marxist group that is not looking for good things for our country and now I see these leagues all kneeling down."
In a 2015 video, one of the founders of Black Lives Matter called herself and a co-founder "trained Marxists."
Trump also described his administration's efforts to help professional sports leagues resume games following coronavirus lockdowns and his disappointment in seeing people kneeling at games as the leagues have restarted.
"We have to stand up for our anthem," he said, "and a lot of people agree with me. Hey, if I am wrong, then I am going to lose an election and that's OK with me. I am always going to stand for our country and flag."
