President Trump on Monday criticized Democrats over an initiative to remove John Wayne's name from a California airport, while also condemning leaders at Princeton University for a similar proposal that would remove former President Woodrow Wilson's name from one of its schools.

In an early morning tweet, the president slammed "Do Nothing Democrats" for wanting to remove long-standing names from public establishments in the fight against racial injustice, saying their efforts show "incredible stupidity."

Last Friday, Democratic officials in California passed a resolution demanding John Wayne's name be removed from an airport in Orange County due to "racist and bigoted statements" made in a 1971 interview.

Princeton University's Board of Trustees also voted to remove Woodrow Wilson's name from its School of Public and International Affairs and Wilson College.
