President Trump late Friday told reporters that he will ban popular Chinese-owned video app TikTok from the United States as soon as today.

The president said:

"As far as TikTok is concerned, we're banning them from the United States. I have that authority ... It's going to be signed tomorrow."

Trump said he could use an executive order or emergency economic powers.

🔦 TikTok, the wildly popular short-form video social media platform, is owned by ByteDance, a Chinese company. Due to the iron grip the Chinese Communist Party has over all aspects of life in China, including business, it is believed that TikTok is likely funneling vast amounts of user data to the Xi Jinping's government, posing a significant national security threat. The company denies it.
