President Trump said Sunday afternoon that the U.S. will designate Antifa as a terrorist organization, as civil unrest grows, cities burn, and riots intensify across the country:

Trump tweeted simply:

The United States of America will be designating ANTIFA as a Terrorist Organization.

Earlier in the day the president tweeted about the radical, militant, left-wing group:

Congratulations to our National Guard for the great job they did immediately upon arriving in Minneapolis, Minnesota, last night. The ANTIFA led anarchists, among others, were shut down quickly. Should have been done by Mayor on first night and there would have been no trouble!

On Saturday Trump blamed Antifa for the riots and violence, saying, "It's ANTIFA and the Radical Left. Don't lay the blame on others!":

Also on Saturday, Trump reiterated his belief that Antifa has played a large part in the destruction and carnage across America in recent weeks, saying in a short press briefing:

"These people — it's Antifa, it's a lot of radical left, bad people —and they've got to be taught that you can't do this."
