President Trump Friday told Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer that she should talk with protesters who have gathered outside the state Capitol building and "make a deal" in an effort to give them their lives back amid the coronavirus crisis.

"The Governor of Michigan should give a little, and put out the fire," Trump tweeted Friday morning. "These are very good people, but they are angry. They want their lives back again, safely! See them, talk to them, make a deal."

On Thursday, Gov. Whitmer extended Michigan's state of emergency through May 28, a measure that allows the governor to unilaterally extend the stay-at-home order, which is currently set to expire May 15.

Although Whitmer did not directly respond to President Trump's tweet, she did post a GIF of Michelle Obama saying, "When they go low we go high."
