Former President Donald Trump might add his voice to the bid to recall Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom with the potential of hosting rallies in the state if there is a runoff election later this year.

The effort to recall Newsom recently reached the signature threshold in order to trigger a recall vote.

Republicans former San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer and John Cox, who lost to Newsom in the 2018 governor's race, have announced their candidacies. Richard Grenell, a close Trump ally, has also reportedly considered a potential run.

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki tweeted that President Biden "clearly opposes any effort to recall" Newsom.

🔦 Nearly 60% of respondents to a Morning Consult/Politico poll say they want Trump to remain a major GOP figure, showing an increase of 9 percentage points since January 25. A potential runoff could test Trump's ability to wield support and reunite him with the party establishment.
