President Trump expressed support for Asian-Americans in a tweet on Monday, as well as during a White House Coronavirus Task Force update that evening.
His Monday tweets called for the nation to "totally protect our Asian-American community in the United States, and all around the world," and stated the crisis "is NOT their fault in any way, shape, or form. They are working closely with us to get rid of it."
He used similar language during the task force briefing and refrained from calling coronavirus the "Chinese virus," as he has previously done.
? Trump's use of the phrase has been criticized as racist. The president has defended the phrase as an accurate description of the virus' origin.
