President Trump has proposed canceling any trade deals that bring foreign cattle into the United States.
"We have a lot of cattle in this country," he said on Tuesday while speaking about aid to farmers and the agriculture sector. "I think you should look at the possibility of terminating those deals."
Trump's remarks on the subject seemed to be directed to Sonny Perdue, the secretary of agriculture.
The agriculture sector has seen a variety of challenges due to the coronavirus pandemic, including the shutting down of numerous food processing plants and reduced demand from the restaurant industry due to widespread restaurant shutdowns.
? So far in 2020, imports have brought 530,000 cattle into the United States.
