In an interview with RealClear Politics published Wednesday, President Trump warned Republicans to "toughen up" in order to combat the left-wing's aggressive "culture war" that threatens American civilization.
The president elaborated on some of the ideas he proposed during his polarizing Mount Rushmore speech ahead of the July 4 weekend. Trump condemned the recent attacks on monuments across the U.S. and efforts to silence those who stand against "far-left fascism."
"We are in a culture war. If the Republicans don't toughen up and get smart and get strong and protect our heritage and protect our country, I think they're going to have a very tough election," Trump said.
Trump said he is aware of the scores of polls that show how Biden is extending his lead heading into the 2020 Election.
"This was going to be a blowout, and then China hit us with the ‘China virus,' and all of a sudden, it discombobulated this country and the entire world. Now, it's a much closer situation," Trump said. "We were sailing to an easy victory. Now, I have to fight for the victory, but I've been fighting all my life. That's what I do. I fight for victory."
