Robert Trump, the younger brother of President Trump, has died, the White House said in a statement on Saturday.

"It is with heavy heart I share that my wonderful brother, Robert, peacefully passed away tonight," the president said in the statement. "He was not just my brother, he was my best friend. He will be greatly missed, but we will meet again. His memory will live on in my heart. Robert, I love you. Rest in peace."

Ivanka and Eric Trump responded to their uncle's death on Twitter.

Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani also tweeted his response to Robert's death.

The White House did not disclose the cause of Robert's death. President Trump traveled to New York City on Friday to visit Robert in the hospital. Robert spent at least 10 days in the neuroscience intensive care unit at Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan in June.
