The Supreme Court of the United Kingdom ruled that Prime Minister Boris Johnson broke the law when he recently suspended Parliament for over a month.

Johnson claimed Parliament needed to be suspended in the run-up to the rollout of his administration’s new policies. Critics said he was attempting to avoid scrutiny over his Brexit plans.

The Supreme Court’s decision was unanimous. The court said precedent for their decision goes back to the 1600s.
