Boris Johnson, the prime minister of the United Kingdom, has been placed in intensive care after his condition "worsened" as he battled a coronavirus infection, government officials confirmed Monday.
The prime minister revealed in late March that he had tested positive for the disease. He had self-isolated and continued to work from his home, but after his symptoms "persisted" he went to St. Thomas' Hospital in London for treatment.
A prime ministry spokesperson confirmed on Monday that Johnson had been "moved to the Intensive Care Unit at the hospital" on Monday. He was "receiving excellent care," the spokesperson said. The prime minister is 55 years old.
