United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been released from intensive care, a sign that the 55-year-old statesman is successfully fighting off the COVID-19 infection with which he was diagnosed late last month.

Johnson had been performing his public duties from home while under quarantine due to the diagnosis; three days ago he was moved to intensive care for treatment of the disease. He was described as being in stable condition in the ICU and did not require intubation while there.

The prime minister remains in St. Thomas' Hospital in London, where he is recovering "in extremely good spirits," a spokesman said Thursday.
