At least 40 states are preparing to file an antitrust lawsuit against Facebook after months of investigating the possibility. The lawsuit, led by the state of New York, could be filed as early as next week.
The lawsuit, like the Justice Department's suit against Google in October, will focus on Facebook's alleged abuse of its disproportionate power in the social media marketplace. Facebook has defended itself by pointing to the vibrancy of the social media world.
Still, Mark Zuckerberg's company has faced withering criticism from Republicans and Democrats, earning the ire of both President Trump and his Democrat rival Joe Biden on the campaign trail.
Zuckerberg himself has been called to testify in front of Congress to answer questions about his company's business practices. He has repeatedly reaffirmed Facebook's commitment to free speech while at the same time blocking harmful and dangerous speech.
