The number of hospitalizations for COVID-19 in the U.S. reached 90,481 on Thursday, reaching a new historic high on the 17th straight day of increases.

New confirmed cases of the virus, however, fell to 110,000 on Thanksgiving Day. The number of deaths also fell to 1,319 on Thursday from more than 2,000 the previous two days.

Heath experts are unsure what impact Thanksgiving travel will have on the numbers. Despite government lockdowns and recommendations, 50 million Americans planned to travel for the holiday, according to an AAA survey.
